Confirmation Class

September – May | Sunday afternoons, 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. (lunch is provided)

Confirmation in the United Methodist Church is a time of learning and growing in faith and preparing our young people for the next step in their journeys. We begin the confirmation process in May with rising 6th graders, or older. Every fall we begin gathering with our newest group of confirmands. Over the summer they start to work with their families to find a mentor for the confirmation process. Throughout the year we build relationships with the group, serve together in the community, attend different churches for worship, and learn what it means to be members of the church in fun and unique ways. On Confirmation Sunday, the confirmand will have the choice to accept the invitation to live into the community of Central UMC as a faithful and dedicated member of the congregation – through their prayers, witness, and service.

The confirmation journey is full of great experiences! If any of you, or your youth, are interested in participating in confirmation this next academic year, please Rev. Ann H. Owens, Director of Children & Family Ministries.

Confirmand Participation

Confirmands are asked to attend at least 90% of the confirmation events before they commit to the year. This is because we focus on relationship building with one another in the fall, which helps connection and comfortable when we begin our confirmation lessons in January. These lessons shape the confirmands understanding of what it means to be a member of the United Methodist Church.

Parent Participation

Parents are the number 1 Spiritual Guide in their children’s life. Pastoral staff can teach lessons and guide trips, but realistically parents are the people they will share that experience with and connect. It is important and vital for parents to encourage their youth to attend as many confirmation events as possible. We also ask that parents commit to volunteering & attending any retreats or outings they are available.
